Charles Lennox, 1st Duke of Richmond, (born July 29, 1672, London—died May 27, 1723, Goodwood,Sussex, Eng.), son ofCharles IIofEnglandby his mistress Louise de Kéroualle, duchess of Portsmouth. He was aide-de-camp to William III from 1693 to 1702 and lord of the bedchamber to George I from 1714 to 1723.
Lady Caroline Lennox married Henry Fox, 1st Baron Holland
Charles James Fox, (born Jan. 24, 1749,London, England—died Sept. 13, 1806, Chiswick, Middlesex [now in Hounslow, London]),Britain’sfirst foreign secretary (1782, 1783, 1806), a famous champion of liberty, whose career, on the face of it, was nevertheless one of almost unrelieved failure. He conducted against KingGeorge IIIa long and brilliant vendetta; for this reason he was almost always in political opposition and, in fact, held high office for less than a year altogether. He achieved only two important reforms, steering through Parliament a resolution pledging it to abolish theslave tradespeedily and, in the 1792Libel Act, restoring to juries their right to decide not merely whether an allegedly libellous article had, in fact, been published but also whatconstitutedlibel in any given case and whether or not a defendant was guilty of it.
Fox was the third son of Henry Fox, afterward 1st Baron Holland, by his wife, Lady Caroline Lennox, daughter of the 2nd duke of Richmond.
Lady Emily Lennox (1731-1814)married Lieut.-Col. James Fitzgerald, 1 st Duke of Leinster.
Lord Edward Fitzgerald, (born Oct. 15, 1763, CountyKildare, Ire.—died June 4, 1798,London, Eng.), Irish rebel who was renowned for his gallantry andcourage, who was a leading conspirator behind the uprising of 1798 against British rule inIreland.
Lord Edward Fitzgerald was born the younger son of James Fitzgerald, Duke of Leinster, and his wife Emily, the daughter of the Duke of Richmond. He arrived in Ireland as an infant and attended school there under the instruction of William Ogilvie. After the death of his father in 1773, Edward's mother took her children and Ogilvie (her lover) to France. Lord Edward began his military career in 1776, transferring regiments several times in his early years. After serving in America, he returned to Ireland and was elected member of parliament for the borough of Athy in Kildare. He aligned himself politically with his cousin, Charles James Fox, and a group of Irish patriots. During the 1780s Fitzgerald traveled a great deal and gradually became more interested in revolutionary politics. His marriage in 1792 to the daughter of French radicals signals to many the cementing of his radicalism. He returned to Ireland in 1793 and became involved in revolutionary circles. In 1796 he traveled to Hamburg with Arthur O'Connor, seeking French assistance for an Irish rebellion. Upon his return, he formally joined the Society for United Irishmen and was the group's most experienced militarist. In 1797, Fitzgerald made the mistake of trusting half-hearted radical Thomas Reynolds, who betrayed Fitzgerald and the Leinster Directory to the police. Fitzgerald fled and lived in hiding for a time before his dramatic capture in May 1798. Lord Edward was wounded and imprisoned in Newgate Gaol. An attempt was made to rescue him before the outbreak of the rebellion, but it failed. In prison his wounds became infected and he died in his cell on June 4, 1798.
Charles Lennox, 3rd duke of Richmond, (born February 22, 1735,London, England—died December 29, 1806, Goodwood, Sussex), one of the most progressive British politicians of the 18th century, being chiefly known for his advanced views on parliamentary reform.
"This I shall not allow" I thought I would love Caroline; it turned out I like Emily and Sarah
